I had the opposite experience. I called the dentist and asked for them to not only tell me the pricing, but to check with my insurance company so that I knew how much I'd have to pay compared to the insurance company. They happily did it for me (at least that's my impression). I went in for my first visit today. As long as I don't get a surprise bill in the mail I'll be happy. Sadly, what you describe sounds like the Just Brakes model where they give you free pads and then charge you up the ying yang for all this other "safety work" that you really don't need.
